Pictures!

wolffe: (hello there!)
So my hair used to have a tiny amount of wave in it that about 10 minutes after waking up would be gone completely. Then it was stick straight. I remember trying to get a perm in the 80's and having to have the rollers heat set because the chemicals alone weren't enough. Pregnancy changed all that. Now my hairs are pretty wavy almost curly.

This is after air drying all night. No curling iron, no blow dryer. That's fun. :)

Also, my pallet garden is going great guns now that I've moved it into full sun.

No fruit yet, but I have tiny tomatoes on all the plants, small jalapenos and the cukes are covered in blooms. Something ate my onions (I suspect bunnies, which is more than okay with me) and the swiss chard is still kind of struggling but I hope it takes off this fall.

Can't wait for all these tomatoes to get big enough to eat! They're all heirlooms. NOM NOM

I just strung my cucumbers. A couple have flowers already, even though they're only about 4" tall. My tomatillo is covered in flowers. I have two jalapeno peppers getting to be a good size. The other tomatoes are really growing since I moved the pallets into full sun. Unfortunately, I think it's too much for my rainbow chard. I might have to scavenge another package of seeds and replant this fall. I could have a nice little micro-greens salad with them, but I don't think they'll get very big.

My rainbow carrots are getting really big, but I know I have to leave them until this fall so the roots will be a good size.

We cleared a few trees out of the backyard that had limbs almost touching the deck and it's amazing how much space it opened up. I can't wait until we actually get the pine trees down and the whole backyard fenced and graded. Probably in 2015 since next year we're doing the kitchen.

We had fun dying eggs. We didn't do a hunt because Jake had two already and that's enough chocolate. (More pics on Flickr, of course.)

I plan a big post about the new plantings, but I have to write down what all I bought. I can only remember a few of them. But the pictures are up on Flickr if you want to see.

This time of the containers on my deck.

Yellow rose, not yet blooming even though the red ones in the driveway bed are. Around the stem I've planted a small height sunflower mix and about 6 packets of random wildflower seeds.

The tomato (celebrity, I think, is the variant), basil and the strawberry I planted last year.

Jake's tiny heiny. :)

Random caterpillar we played with for a bit before setting him free again.

Yesterday I went to the Growers Outlet and got 8 Cosmos, 4 Snapdragons, 5 Coneflowers (Echinacea) and a Pablo Dahlia all in 4" or bigger pots for $21.

Then I went to Bass Pro Shops and bought two tshirts that I can't find on the website to show you.

Then I came home and planted all those plants in my front flower bed (Yay!), getting my first dot of poison ivy for the season (So not yay). The cosmos, snapdragons and coneflowers went into the bed with the magnolias which are returning. I took most of the pansies out since they were getting leggy and droopy. The dahlia went into one of the pots I keep next to the front steps. I still have a butt load of sunflower mix seed packets that I want to plant behind the coneflowers. I can't find my weed rake. I've looked everywhere in the garage, and everywhere outside where it might have been left and nothing. Jason says he hasn't seen it since last year (which seems impossible since he parks right in front the garbage cans we keep large handled tools in) so I can only assume it was stolen. Maybe the squirrels needed a weed rake.

Anyway, the bed is fairly boring right now. Only the cosmos and snapdragons are blooming. I'll take pictures to share anyway. I should also take pictures of my little kitchen garden on the deck with my tomato, basil and strawberry plants.

I've also cut the fabric for another toddler bag. I need to make a run to REI or look and see if I can find the nylon webbing online at a cheaper place than the one site I saw. I bought the strapping at Ace Hardware before, but they only have black and green in the 1.5" and I want black and brown. Plus I need 2" straps for Jason's tool belt. I have 3 more bags to cut fabric for so I have time to get the straps.

And I ordered 4 more yards of the Amy Schimler Forest Friends fabric I used for my toddler bag. I'm going to make another one with better dividers. And a dress. Because I love that fabric so much. When I've got my new bag made, I'll probably give my current one away to whoever wants it for the cost of shipping.

I'm cutting fabric instead of sewing because Jake's friend Zach has a stomach bug so their playdate at his house was cancelled. And it's gorgeous outside again but I'm staying inside because I think it was the pollen that gave me the headache I had yesterday afternoon.

It's been absolutely gorgeous outside today. Jake and I went back to our new favorite fabric store and I picked up 2 more prints for skirts, plus a fat quarter for our across the street neighbor to look at. She's on the hunt for cute owl fabric.

Yesterday I sewed up the 2nd 5 minute skirt but I haven't taken a pic yet. I also painted my toes. I hate having bare toes, so that was nice. I cut the fabric for the messenger camera bag, but haven't worked on it yet.

Tomorrow I'm going to a nursery to buy pretty plants. My pansies from this winter are still hanging in there, but I'd like to get something a little more showy for the front bed. I think the marigolds are coming back too, but I don't see them being a warm weather flower. My strawberry plant is doing well and I moved it to a bigger pot so maybe I'll get more than one strawberry this year. I'm wondering if I want to try growing tomatoes again. Probably. I really want blueberry bushes but have no where to put them. If the backyard were cleared I'd have plenty of space, but right now we have a pine forest and very little actual back yard.

I also want to move 4 azalea bushes from beneath our crepe myrtles, but I have to read the HOA rules to see if I need permission before doing that. Which is ridiculous, but I don't want a fine for moving bushes. :P My evil plan to kill the hedge o' boxwoods seems to be working. Only a few of them are sprouting leaves after this fall's massive cut back. Honestly I didn't mean to kill them, but I also didn't care if they died.
