Sheep to Shawl, 2nd 5 minute skirt and Camera Bag

Watching the sheep being sheared.

Yesterday we went to a Sheep to Shawl event at a local farm. Well, hour and a half drive local. It was neat. They showed the whole process of wool production from the sheep to the, well, shawl. Watching the guy shear was the neatest thing. They also had other local artisans - a lady doing pottery on a wheel, a bee apiary with bees in a display, a woodworker, a man weaving chair seats plus a bunch of ladies spinning/knitting in 1800s dress.

I didn't get all that many pictures, because it was crowded as hell, but I will share a few. More at flickr.

The sheep looks pretty pretzeled, but it must have felt good because they pretty much just laid there and let the guy work. Might be hard to see in this picture, but the male sheep had 4 horns. Devil sheep! They were actually pretty cool looking.

Babies!

This lady was spinning right from the Angora rabbit in her lap. She'd pull off a hank of hair, and spin it into the yarn. The rabbit was just chillin'. It was really neat to watch.

A complete de-sheeped fleece. My only disappointment was that they weren't selling any yarn.

My 2nd 5 minute skirt. It's a leafy/vine pattern. I have two more to do yet.

I finally finished the camera bag. Well, mostly. I'm going to embroider some top stitching around the top of the bag to try and clean it up a bit but other than that it's done. Like my other bag, this one was definitely a prototype. I have to figure out a better way of doing the inside. It turned out okay, and is certainly functional, but it's not very pretty. Doing the topstitching to attach the lining to the outside of the bag was almost impossible with the padding in place. I'm going to have to think on that problem some more and see if I can come up with a better way of doing it. In any case, I'm still very pleased with the bag.

Front

Front inside the flap. There are 6 pockets for lens caps, filters, CF cards, etc.

Inside loaded with my gear (2 lenses, flash, battery charger, camera body w/lens).

Now I go back to sewing loveys for a while. I also have fabric for 4 more toddler bags, 2 more 5 minute skirts and Jason's asked me to make him a utility belt for his work tools. *whew*

Oh man, I love your camera bag! Let me know if/when you start selling them in your Etsy store?

Your 5 minute skirt looks super-cute on you.

And yay for sheep-to-shawl-y events! The lady spinning directly from the bunny is amazing. There's something incredibly fairy-tale-like about that image.

The Connecticut Sheep and Wool Festival is coming up... I hope they'll have a sheep to shawl event there, since I think I missed last year's.

Ditto on letting us know when you start selling the camera bags - love it and I could always use another (not that I don't have more than enough... ) Does my heart good to see the 20D being loved so properly.

Love the woman spinning from the rabbit - that's hilarious!
