OMG

Weekend from hell is still ongoing. We spent ALL DAY Saturday shopping for a new couch. Finally got one at 7:30pm. Won't be here until the end of the month, but it's big and comfortable and awesome. We also got a coffee table and an end table. I think once I recover the rose colored chairs, that'll be it for furniture in the living room. The couch is so big that I think it'll look fine with nothing else in there.

Sunday I started the process of rearranging the computer room/bewhiskered studio to accommodate a new worktable/fabric storage system for me. That way I'm not cutting fabric on the dining room table. Plus it'll be right there where I sew so YAY. It's going to be awesome. But the work table is big (3' x 5') and it was like a game of Tetris trying to make everything fit and look halfway decent. I was about to give up but then Jason came up with a plan that's actually quite nice. He always was good at Tetris.

I wish I had funds left to get another nice, 4 shelf bookcase. That would eliminate 2 of the little ones. But that's not in the budget right now. Need to sell a few more Ruggles.

Anyway, I'm mostly done with that but I have A LOT of fabric and books.

In other news, while I've been dealing with my back issues, Mom has also been in a lot of back pain. She thought it was a result of her own bad discs, but then she felt a lump. Turns out it's a synovial cyst that is sitting near her spine and pressing on nerves. It's not cancerous or anything, but obviously quite painful and it has to come out. She's going to try to wait to have the surgery until I can come for spring break. In the meantime, I'm going to be busting my butt trying to get my current custom order backlog done and shipped so I can go earlier.

Back to organizing and moving stuff!

ETA: OH AND I stayed up until almost 1am organizing and trying to get the Wanderer's Festival turtle* and then Erik woke me up at 5am. FIVE IN THE MORNING. *iz ded*

*showed up 10 minutes before midnight (so 8:50 PST) and stayed until 12:45. No festival. Now I'm wondering if "standard time" means no daylight savings, so I should've gone at 1am. That's ... going to be rough.

Day One

So I've decided that to get back in the swing of things I'm going to post at least once a day in December. Now that it's out there I have to do it, right?

Yesterday I made an advent calendar for the boys. It turned out pretty cute, but I missed my math on the pockets so I have to make the craft sticks I'm using for the activities shorter. I'll probably do that next year though. I'm planning on posting a tutorial over on the Bewhiskered blog. I have a tutorial for the car wallets I made for Jake's 4th birthday party in my head as well. Maybe I can get those things done now that I'm off customs for the season.

Other projects I want to work on during the break include my red riding hood coat that I've had the materials for forever but haven't even opened the pattern and Erik's 2nd birthday party. I also need to make teacher gifts and figure out what I'm getting everyone for Christmas. My niece wants a giant Ruggle for her bedroom, so she's taken care of but everyone else? No clue.

Today the advent calendar is going to tell Jake we're decorating the house and yard so I'd better go get ready for that.

Oh, and Roll Tide! I love my team and hope they win, but honestly just knowing someone from the SEC is going up against Notre Dame makes me giddy. We finally get a chance to shut them up with their we just need a chance and we can beat the snot out of an SEC team talk. But talking football to people who aren't into it is boring so I'll stop. :)`

I want some modeled shots of my Ruggles. If you're a photographer who works with (or has access to) babies/toddlers and are willing to trade shots for Ruggles, let me know.

I'm doing a giveaway to celebrate my one year Etsyversary for my Ruggles. Learn all the details and enter on the shiny new blog for Bewhiskered here:

And please let me know if anything on that post is unclear or sounds weird. I wrote it about 1am this morning. LOL

Finally found a good use for all the scraps of faux fur I had after making the Ruggles. Cat toys!

My new name and tagline...

Ruggles: lovable, huggable animal security blankets!

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] purangel for the tagline and, er... my Mom for the name. LOL Thanks so much to everyone who entered!

[livejournal.com profile] purangel, I'm not sure I have your address. Please send it to: kenzie@zamalzain.org and I'll send you your prize. :)

Okay, so most of the suggestions I got were more for names for my blankets rather than a tagline. So I've decided to break the contest into two parts. The first part is for a name and the second part for a tagline. For details on the tagline contest read below the poll. (note: if your suggestion contained "security blanket" you are automatically entered for the tagline contest. Read below for more details.)

Both winners will receive a small prize. You can vote for your own suggestion! :)

***NOTE*** Unfortunately, "Creature Comforts" is taken by an animated show, so I won't be able to use that one. Since polls aren't editable, please don't vote for Creature Comforts. If you've already cast your vote in that direction, please revote for another option. Thanks!

[Poll #1624933]

Tagline contest! For this portion, I need a phrase that can be plugged into the "description" area of various forms and websites. It should be about the length of a regular sentence and MUST include the phrase "security blanket". Keep in mind that this is the phrase search engines will use to pull up my blankets, so the use of words you would search for to find them is a good start. (Thus the mandatory inclusion of "security blanket" since analytics tells me that's what most people searched for when they click on my loveys.)

Anyone can enter - this is an open post, so pass the info along to friends. The more the merrier! (psst... you can also have friends vote!)

I have some questions for you.

Say I was going to make a bag like this one:

Dimensions are:
(folded flat): 11" (width) by 14" (height)
(upright): 7" x 4" (bottom) by 11" (height to drawstring - 13.5" to top of ruffle)

[Poll #1485029]

I'm getting ready to make a mock up and want to make sure it's useful.

Still fiddling with the lighting, but I really like this. I tried outside on the real grass, but that didn't work out at all. Found this rug at Walmart and I thought it might work.

What do you guys think?

Yes, I'm posting this everywhere. I'm stupid excited. My zebra lovey was chosen for a treasury! *squee!* First time in a treasury, and my pictures aren't even that good.

Trying to decide how to stage my lovey pictures. I just snapped these in various places quickly, so I didn't do any work with the lighting and such (except for the blue background one). This is basically just to see which background people like best. Please take a sec and let me know? Thanks!
