Anybody subscribe to Kindle Unlimited? I'm trying to figure out if it's a good deal for me or not. I'm in the 30 day trial right now. I looked for two books, both on my TBR list. One they had, the other they didn't.  I don't feel like going through the 100s of books on my TBR list to see how many they have. Just wondering if they have most of the books you want to read, if you've found it a good deal, etc.

I already have 880 books in my Calibre database and I've just discovered Bookzz. At least ebooks don't take up physical space, right?

So my back's been hurting since Friday. It wasn't like my back was out or anything, just sufficiently twinge-y to get me good every so often and be a general nuisance otherwise.I went for a walk around the neighborhood Saturday afternoon, and that actually seemed to help a bit. Sunday it was unhappy again, but I was still able to move around.

Then this morning, the pain moved into my left hip. All of it. It's persistent and it's so painful it's hard to walk, stand, sit or even lay down much of the time.I'm unsure if I'm falling apart and should see an orthopedic, or if I just slept on it wrong, or if sitting in the chair all day yesterday playing WoW was unwise.

Also, I've realized that I actually prefer to read on my Kindle now. That's quite a revelation since I was dead set against them and considered myself somewhat of a purist when it came to books. But it's just so damn convenient. I don't have to use a hand to keep it open to read. I can set it down on the table and eat while reading only needing a finger to tap to turn the page. I can read at night, in bed just using the back light turned to a dim setting. And - here's the best part - I will never run out of bookshelf space. Oh, I still insist on paper versions of reference and graphics books. The one book I read on my Kindle that included a map the page was laughably unreadable. But yeah. I like reading on the Kindle.

Jake's been watching the new MLP: Friendship is Magic shows and I told him the other day that I still had at least one pony from when I was younger and collected them. Turns out I could only find one, but thanks to a site [livejournal.com profile] twotone gave me forever ago I identified her as Moondancer. I also had Moonstone, but have no idea where she is, if I still have her. She might be one of the ones I sold on ebay with the castle and the shower cloud thingy.

Anyway, fun to pull her out and play with her again. She's in pretty good shape, except for frizzy hair. Looking at Amazon I'm kind of sad that they don't have the original shaped ponies for sale anymore. They're all thin legged, tall things that remind me of Bratz.

Also, last Monday I started going through and reorganizing my books. So far I've gone through 1.5 bookshelves and added about 60 books to my Paperbackswap account. (If you want any, and you aren't a member of PBS let me know and I'll send it to you.)

Two of the 6 bookshelves in this room.

I have all 3 books on my Kindle. I can loan them to another Kindle, once each for 14 days. If anyone is wanting to read them let me know and I'll loan them to you. I'll need the email account associated with your Kindle.

YA Lit

I finished The Hunger Games trilogy this morning. Something bothered me through the whole series, although I do think it was fairly well done and a hell of a lot better than Twilight (full disclosure: I haven't read Twilight).

Anyway, what is it with YA Lit and the protagonist having to "choose" between two men who are in love with her? I don't get it. I didn't think it was necessary. I thought Gale could have been her best friend without having the romantic element, and would have liked to see it go that way.

I did have to continually remind myself that Katniss is supposed to be 16/17. Because for how tough and survival-smart she is she's really dumb.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the movies just because this is one of those stories that lends itself REALLY well to film. I looked at IMDB and the only cast choice I winced at was Haymitch. I mean, Woody Harrelson? He must have had one hell of an audition.

While I'm on the subject of movies, anybody else notice that Red Tails is just recut footage from Tuskeegee Airmen?

Just finished The Hunger Games - the first book I've read on my Kindle Fire. I'm not going to give up my paperbacks just yet. The biggest drawback? Having to plug in partway through the novel due to low battery. I didn't experience much screen fatigue, but I do like reading on Jason's regular Kindle with its e-ink better. I might send any future books there instead.

I also miss the satisfying *clunk* of sliding a finished novel into place on the bookshelf. But I don't miss having to find room on said bookshelf.

The book itself was good, and makes me look even more forward to the movie. I'm a big fan of bows myself, so any girl kicking ass with a bow is going to draw me in. If I had a Prime membership, I'd go ahead and borrow the second book and read it but I don't so I'll wait.

This is going to contain spoilers for both the first three books and the HBO series, so if you don't want them don't click here )

*sigh* I finally got fed up enough with Bibliophil's missing and erroneous information that I moved to Library Thing. I bought a year long membership because otherwise it wouldn't import all my books. Looks like the ratings came over, but not the reviews so I'll have to transfer those manually. Later. So far I'm liking it. Anyone else have an account there? Here's the link to my profile: http://www.librarything.com/profile/wolffe

Maybe when I hit 10 years on LJ I'll make it into a book. Because that would be pretty cool.
