mouse problems

so it's either my actual mouse or my USB hub. I switched out for my trackball and appear to be working fine, but it's also plugged directly into my laptop rather than the USB hub. I suspect the hub has something to do with it, because my keyboard stopped working and I had to route it directly into the laptop as well.
more experimentation is needed, but at least I can single click effectively now.
