The problem with flies
Jul. 19th, 2010 08:10 pmI hate flies. Not in the way that I hate roaches and camel crickets because that's more fear based and makes my skin crawl just to think about but more in a KILL THEM ALL type of way.
I suspect this has something to do with the house I grew up in. It was built in the 1800s and showed every year of that age. Several summers things died in the attic and resulted in maggots raining down from holes in the ceiling. When you're 12 and maggots fall from the light fixture in your bathroom it tends to leave an impression.
So it was disturbing to find (and kill) a dozen flies in my kitchen last night. Even more disturbing was finding an equal number in the same window this morning. So obviously they weren't coming in from outside as I'd originally assumed.
I checked the usual places, the sink, the garbage, the cat box, the light fixtures (even though we have a second floor and this was highly unlikely) and found nothing. Which is maddening. I can't smell anything dead in the house and pregnancy has given me a damn good sense of smell so I'm pretty sure that's not it. We no longer have dog poop in the garage attracting flies, so that's out. The only dead thing I know of outside is a headless chipmunk Pilsbury brought me weeks ago but I highly doubt that's still supporting maggots and it was pretty far from the house besides.
I just won the battle against piss ants in the kitchen and now I have flies. I was obsessively cleaning in the battle with the piss ants so getting flies makes me seriously angry.
